about

With Odyssee, we proudly present the result of a journey we started five years ago. It was a journey in which we experienced intense and emotional moments. Nevertheless there were numerous moments of pure friendship and wonderful musical enjoyment.

Each composition on this album has its own story and place in our odyssey. With Boccherini’s Fandango comes pure nostalgia. It was the first piece we’ve ever played as a quartet. Immense respect for the work and genius of J.S. Bach can be found in our version of the Allegro Moderato from his 3th Brandenburg Concerto. Our minds are filled with memories and our eyes well up with tears by the sound of Giacomo Puccini’s Crisantemi. In contrast to these compositions, we work our way dancing and swinging through a Brazilian carnival with Baiao de Gude and Bluezilian written by the Brazilian composers Paulo Bellinati and Clarice Assad. In between there might be some time
for a dance with the love of our lives to the melodies of Pjotr Tsjaikovsky’s Swan Lake Waltz. When we play Quiccan, we look back upon an artistic encounter with a man who is not only a guitarist but also a composer and a personality of world class, Andrew York. Arvo Pärt’s Summa steadily and
silently makes its way to our innermost feelings. We reminisce about admiringly watching another quartet play Feast for Tantalus and wishing some day we would play it too, many years before we were even thinking about making this journey. While we play the Desperado theme, Cancion del Mariachi, we imagine us fighting evil together with Antonio Banderas in the desserts of Mexico.

We’ve come a long way, but the journey isn’t over yet. Our odyssey continues…
